Rachael Kantaris lives and works in St. Ives, dividing her time between etching at the Porthmeor Print Workshop directly above the Penwith Gallery, (which she was instrumental in setting up), and painting in her studio. She has taught at many places including The Tate Gallery, St. Ives, on the Fine Art and Textiles Degree courses at Cornwall College and at the Newlyn School of Art.
She was born in Brisbane, Australia, and spent much of her childhood in Cornwall. She studied at Falmouth School of Art, and completed her B.A in Visual and Performing Arts (Fine Art and Contemporary Dance), and M.A in Printmaking at Brighton University. She has regularly exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She has travelled widely, and was invited by The British Council to exhibit and work as artist in residence in studios in Berlin, Melbourne and Manila.
